Calling all creatives

What gets you in the mood to write?

Do you have scheduled time each day to free write? Or maybe, you develop a content calendar for the month with the topics for the days you select to write to be focused on a topic or theme. And just maybe, there are times when you pick up the pen to write (or open your laptop) and nothing comes out so you procrastinate until tomorrow and the same thing occurs. Yep, I’ve been there many times.

How do we get over those hurdles and allow our writing to soar?

Hmm, there are tons of articles and listicles about preparing to write. I’ve read many of them. Overall, I’ve gathered that different things work for different people, such as environmental change, music to set the tone, prompts, and etc.

What works for you?

As for me, I’m all over the place. One moment it can be a list, the next a song lyric, passing a beautiful tree, the way someone dresses, a book title, a dream, and more.

My goal is to get more strategic with it for the upcoming month. I’m going to actually take the route of creating a list of songs. 3 out of 7 days, I’ll listen to a different song from the list and write about whatever is sparked. If you’re game, give it a try. And if you post it, drop a link in the comments so I can check it out. Let me know the song you chose as well.

Let’s see what we can create.

Happy writing. ✍️

  1. I’m all over the place when it comes to my writing. But I notice that when I get in a habit of being in the same place at the same time, that my thoughts just flow better. Sounds crazy but it works for me.

    1. It sounds like you’ve formed a great habit. A great environment and time for words to flow. Don’t worry though my writing is all over the place as well. It keeps us out the box lol
